2022 Formula 1 Russian GP Canceled

The Formula 1 Russian GP which was scheduled to be held on 25 September 2022 has been canceled due to Russia's massive invasion of Ukraine. Formula 1 issued a statement that it is not possible to host the Russian Grand Prix under the current situation.

After the decision was made on Friday, the UK culture secretary Nadine Dorries said, the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix is another clear message to President Putin that the international sporting world does not support and allow him to use these events to further his illegal activities to legitimize and deadly attack of Ukraine.

I appreciate the action taken by the FIA and its drivers. We are working swiftly with the governing bodies related to the international sporting events planned for this year in Russia and urge them to follow suit."

The cancellations followed an enthusiastic appeal from the drivers, with world champions Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso all insisting that Formula 1 should not be racing there.
